For more than 25 years, the owner-customers of OP Financial Group member cooperative banks have benefited from being owner-customers.
The more the owner-customer uses OP Financial Group's services, the more benefits and discounts they receive – and the more they earn valuable OP bonuses.
As a financial services group owned by its customers, we channel the gains from our business to our owner-customers. In other words, when OP Financial Group does well, our owner-customers will also benefit from our success. We will adhere to this – both today and in the future.
Tax treatment of OP bonuses will change in 2026
Prime Minister Orpo's Government examines the taxation practices for bonus systems in the financial sector in line with the Government Programme. In its budget session that ended yesterday, the Government decided to change the taxation practice as of 2026.
In practice, the legislative amendment will mainly apply to OP Financial Group's bonus system. Following the amendment, the bonuses earned by owner-customers would become subject to capital income tax if they are earned from banking services and used for insurance premiums.
We are very pleased that the transition period preceding the legislation's entry into force will enable a smooth transition in terms of both technology and customers.
This will enable us to secure a controlled implementation of the change and adjustment of our systems for the new requirements. It will also guarantee that we can maintain a high-level customer experience for our owner-customers. The transition period is particularly important from the perspective of our 2.1 million owner-customers.
Our owner-customers can breathe easily – their benefits will remain at least as good as today
Following the legislative amendment, the tax treatment of OP bonuses will change. We are currently working on the necessary changes and will inform our owner-customers about the progress and impact of the change as soon as possible.
Nevertheless, our owner-customers can breathe easily: their benefits will remain at least as good as before. In accordance with its mission, OP Financial Group will continue to promote the sustainable prosperity, security and wellbeing of its owner-customers.
