Investments in the summer of 2026 – did you invest like other customers?
More about the topic
OP Pohjola's customers invested actively during the summer, despite the quiet stock market. IQM Quantum Computers, a recent newcomer on the stock exchange, made it onto the list of most-purchased shares.
Share prices were slightly volatile in July, with net returns ending close to zero on 31 July.
The equity market fluctuated, as formerly high-performing tech stocks encountered downward pressure in July. However, other sectors remained attractive, sustaining the market.
The headlines were promising for share values in July: economic growth is continuing around the world. This growth trend is being upheld across various parts of the economy – private consumption, public consumption and investments. OP Pohjola's customers stepped up their investments in funds and shares during the summer. Its data suggests that the summer was unusually active in terms of investment.
"Interestingly, customers' investment behaviour shows no signs of hesitation, despite the lack of large price movements. This indicates that investors are increasingly systematic rather than trying to anticipate market movements," says Ville Rajala, an expert at OP Asset Management.
The OP-World Index fund – which makes diverse investments in stock markets around the world – was most popular with personal customers during the summer. On the other hand, the wealthiest customers favoured the OP-Euro fund, which specialises in fixed income investment.
"During the summer, the focus of fund investments shifted back to the North American equity market. The strong interest shown in the European equity market in early 2026 has levelled off," Rajala says.
Emerging equity markets also continued to be favoured, with the OP-Emerging Markets Equity fund being a popular pick for portfolios.
"Emerging equity markets are chronically underweight in many investors' portfolios, or don't feature at all in their portfolio diversification," says Rajala.
Elisa, Kone and UPM-Kymmene in the top three
Elisa, Kone and UPM-Kymmene are among the three most-purchased shares among all personal customers and for the wealthiest personal customers.
"Elisa, which became a favourite among investors during the summer, has been added to OP Analysis's share and ETF ideas. Our equity analysts see a good buying opportunity in Elisa shares, following the drop in their price," says Rajala.

An interesting development occurred on the Nasdaq Helsinki during the summer – IQM Quantum Computers was listed on 3 July 2026. Many personal customers added the new company to their portfolios, making its share the fourth most purchased by such customers in June– July.
"IQM became Europe's first publicly listed quantum computing company. Finland rarely produces billion-euro technology sector listings of this kind. The company manufactures and develops quantum computers," Rajala explains.
